How Cheesey is Trump?

Abraham Lincoln once said “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the cheese.” 

I love that, and I’m guessing most of the readers of this would agree.

But The Donald?  Not so much.  His love for American cheese is evident, but he’s on record that a slice of the processed stuff is where he’s at. 

But am I  biased because they are the same colour?  He literally said in 2017  “We’re going to make American cheese great again!”  And he WAS president in 2019 when Rogue River Blue from Oregan won the World Cheese Awards, the US’s first winner.  And that is a very, very good cheese.   I was there, it a was the clear and knock out winner.

So what should we expect when we are Tango’d by his next presidency?

In 2018 he proclaimed, “I love cheese! I love it more than I love my golf courses!”  I’m guessing that was a joke, but with him you never know.

More seriously, he said he criticized foreign cheese imports, saying of the dairy trade (and every other trade) We need to stop countries from taking advantage of us. 

But he needs to know which way the cheese flows. From the FT 2018 it is reported nearly $400m of cheese is exported by the US to Mexico each year.  If the Giant Clementine gets into a trade war with the Mexicans  and his Wall stops the reverse flow of North American Curd, tacos could run dry.  Apparently those Machiavellian Mexicans, foolishly taking advantage of their poor northern cousins, only have about 6 months of cheese in the fridge.  That will show them not to export VWs north or clean American houses on the cheap.

But what about his new bestie, Elon?  This is much more fun. He also claps for casein.  In a tweet (i.e. before he overpaid for the declining platform), Musk quipped, “We should all just agree that cheese is the best thing ever.“

So far so good, but it gets better.  He has said both, “I love cheese. I’m going to make a giant cheese factory on Mars and We will bring cheddar cheese to Mars.”

I’d say He Is A Serious Man, but he also said, “If a cheese has feelings, does that make it sentient?” I’m really not sure where he is going with that.

So is Trump a friend of cheese? His 2018 tweet showed a picture of himself holding a slice of cheese with the caption, “This is my favorite snack! Can’t wait to share it with everyone!” I think Rogue Rover Blue isn’t where he’s at.
